Another curate’s egg performance from the D team. Graham and Mike seemed always to have preferable and improving prospects but Lee was in an aggressive mood from the outset. By eight o’clock his unsheltered white king appeared a casual onlooker as the pawns threw themselves on the enemy ; alas the assault backfired. Peter however kept his balance in a lengthy tactical swirl ; and while Alan accurately withstood long-lasting pressure I tried vainly to bring home a Milner-Barry Gambit in the spirit of the late Mike Wood. I must have missed a piece sacrifice somewhere!
