After last weeks loss to Grendel, the Squad was rotated to bring in 4 different players for the match against a struggling Downend ‘D’ team. Christopher got the team off to a good start going a knight up into the end game which proved to much for his opponent who quickly resigned. Jon made an early mistake and dropped a pawn, then spent the game fighting back to gain a draw.
Matias made various sacrifices that finally paid off resulting in a win. Nigel tried hard to create a winning combination but his opponent defended well and with time running low a draw was agreed.
Mike had gone a bishop up going into the end game after pushing his A pawn down the board and forcing his opponent to loose a knight in order to prevent it queening. This was enough to secure the win.
Bob then finished off with a King side attack after a big battle on the queen side for most of the game. With a rook, a pair of knights and a couple of pawns, he trapped the King and with mate only a move away his opponent resigned to give Horfield ‘C’ a 5-1 victory.
