April Round-up

A whistle-stop round-up of the action in April

The A team drew their final match of the season to at least guarantee second in the league and take themselves a point clear at the top of division 1. Fingers crossed Downend B can do us an (unlikely) favour next week. Derek and Steve with wins and an excellent draw for Tom on top board against James Cobb. Horfield & Redland A V Bristol & Clifton A | ECF League Management System

The B team’s penultimate match didn’t go well. Even though we significantly out-graded the Uni team on all boards we came away with a 4.5-1.5 defeat. Bristol University B V Horfield & Redland B | ECF League Management System

The C team finished well with a 4-2 win against promotion chasing Thornbury courtesy of wins from Judd, Duncan, and Joe.  Thornbury V Horfield & Redland C | ECF League Management System

The D team’s penultimate match saw a 4-0 win over Bath D. The win guaranteed second place in the division; a fine effort. Bath D V Horfield & Redland D | ECF League Management System

The E team’s final match against Bristol 4 Knights was a straight show-down for the second promotion slot from division 6. Sadly we came out the wrong side of a 3-1 result meaning we finished a creditable (if slightly frustrating) third in the division. https://lms.englishchess.org.uk/lms/fixture/88513

The F team finished with a loss to a good Yate team. Ash provided the bright spot with his win on board 2. Horfield & Redland F V Yate & Sodbury C | ECF League Management System

Cup semi-finals:

The MKO team reached the final (against South Bristol on 6 May) with a win against Clifton Knights. Bristol & Clifton Knights V Horfield & Redland 1 | ECF League Management System Wins for James and then John on top board were the difference. Sadly an understrength KO side lost out to Downend. The highlight of the evening was Mike beating Nigel but otherwise Downend were better on the night. Horfield & Redland V Downend & Fishponds | ECF League Management System
