It was always going to be tough against the in form Bath ‘A’ team, however we made a good attempt even if the final score does not reflect our effort. Jon went all out with a few sacrifices to open up his opponents position, but after some solid play by white, Jon’s position crumbled and we were 1-0 down. Patryk was under pressure early on and was unable to defect against his opponents advances. It was now down to the last 10 minutes and four games were still in progress. Nigel went a rook up after his opponent made a mistake. However, with his King trapped in the corner by his opponents queen  and two possible moves, Nigel chose the one that lost him the game rather that one that would have only lost three pawns. Paul was a few pawns down going into the end game and could not find a way fight back. Rob had his opponents King exposed but was also under attack himself. Under time pressure the gave slipped away from Rob leaving Bath with a 5-0 lead. Bob stubbornness in the end game paid off. Even though he had a Bishop against two unconnected pawns and an opposite coloured Bishop, he was able to stop the pawns from advancing and forced a draw. Bath A marched on with a 5.5-0.5 win and left Horfield C wondering where their next points would come from.
