Matches for w/c 4 November

Two home matches. Two defeats. Meh.

The B team came up the wrong side of the result against Bath B. Early results saw Rob benefiting from an opening blunder from Stephen to win his game but Mike and John lost their matches. John was galled to have worked out his next two moves but played the second move first and dropped a piece.
The remaining three games went the distance. Andy had got good play for an exchange sacrifice against Rob but missed the best continuation. A blunder in time trouble did for him. Nigel was well placed for most of his game against Oli but positional inaccuracies led to a slow death trying to stop a passed pawn.
Brent won his match. Clive had won a pawn in the middle game but it was a marginal advantage and later offered a draw as the game entered a B v N endgame> But Brent considered his queenside majority and a large lead on the clock were worth continuing with so he played on and those combined advantages were enough to swing it white’s way. The D team lost out to Cabot B. Piotr provided the high point with his first win of the season. Scorecard here
