We had six players at the inaugural New Year Congress. It was a strong tournament with 11 players over 2100 and 19 over 2000. The standout performance was from Andy who won the whole show by a clear point with 6.5 out of 7 and a performance rating of almost 2400. He won six in a row and offered a draw in his last game the exchange and a pawn up to avoid any awful slips at the last. Particularly impressive was his complete domination of Chris Beaumont. Well done Andy!
Tom had a decent set of results; only losing to Keith Arkell in the final round and securing draws against four players above 2150. Steve scored 50% including a tough last day where he lost both his games, Derek scored 4.5/7 including a draw with Chris Beaumont and a Sunday spent playing Italian Plotnikovs…. Mike and a poorly Joe had tougher tournaments scoring 2 and 1.5 respectively.
